I loved the bus ride from Vegas. The desert scenery was beautiful. Inside the dam, the giant turbines were incredible to see up close. Jack, our guide, explained things clearly. I learned a lot about hydroelectric power. I also enjoyed the amazing views of Lake Mead and Black Canyon from the top of the dam. Walking across the bridge at 900 feet above the river was a bit scary but exciting! Boulder City was very charming with its old buildings. I recommend this tour to see the dam's size up close. It's great for anyone curious about hydroelectricity, too.
The tour was great from start to finish. I really enjoyed the guided walk inside the dam and seeing the huge turbines in action. Standing on top and looking out over Lake Mead and the canyon was amazing. The views were beautiful. Walking across the Pat Tillman Bridge gave a real sense of the height and size of the dam. It’s so huge! Boulder City was a nice stop, and I really enjoyed the museum. The whole day felt easy and fun. If you’re in Las Vegas, this is a great option for a fun and educational trip!

Interesting facts about the Hoover Dam
- When it was finished in 1936, the dam stood 726 feet (221 meters) tall, making it the tallest dam in the world at that time.
- In the late 1930s, filling the reservoir triggered hundreds of small earthquakes nearby. This happened because of the enormous weight of the water.
- During construction, workers faced desert temperatures above 120°F (49°C). Yet, the dam was finished two years ahead of schedule.
- The project was originally named Hoover Dam in 1930. It was later referred to as Boulder Dam before the official name Hoover Dam was restored in 1947.
- Boulder City didn’t exist before the dam project. It was built in the early 1930s to house the estimated 5,000 workers who were building the dam.
- The dam contains roughly 4.4 million cubic yards of concrete. That is enough to pave a two-lane highway from San Francisco to New York. Its base is around 660 feet (201 meters) thick in places. That is wider than two football fields placed next to each other.
